WOMEN WHO FEEL: ZONKE DIKANA

Local songbird Zonke Dikanas new album is a true testimony on how she has reinvented herself as an artist and shows her growth within the music industry.

Zonke has been the voice on many house tracks and has released albums overseas but her latest offering Ina Ethe is one of the best albums she has released so far! Not only is it receiving recognition but it has one of the best local tracks listened to by many,'feelings'

She revealed that it was hard for people to actually follow her music because she was not really well-known in the entertainment industry," I'm used to being a back up singer for many artists but was not featured in most". this has not stopped Zonke from releasing such a great and selling albums. "I'm grateful and happy that I'm finally being recognised".

Her first hit single Jik'izinto caused quite a buzz on local radio giving the audience a reason to want more. It is safe to say that Zonkes hit single FEELINGS is making its mark within the music industry. With her positiveness its about time that her talent shines.

On her latest album Ina Ethe, Zonke Dikana is a far cry from the woman on her debut album Life, Love and Music, released in 2007 under the kwaito label Kalawa Jazmee - which is home to artists including Professor and Oskido. This album has shown growth and a better understanding on the level of work that is expected from her.

Dikana canbe a role  model to many. She started at the bottom and worked her way up again even though she wasn't known she never gave up on her talent and focused on her real passion which is music. so what are your views on her new album and your take in the kind of genre she sings?

A POWERFUL STATEMENT

President Jacob Zuma believes south Africa has achieved far more in 18 years of service delivery than any other country.

This is a very powerful statement for the president of any country to say, especially when the people within that country find that statement to be debatable.

Zuma believes that more people continue to strive for basic necessities; but the path in which the country has taken is totally opposite the way in which the government see things.

Children in various provinces suffered tremendously after the textbook fiasco, robbing learners valuable learning material. This highlights poor service delivery, showing a huge disadvantage to the Minister of Education and her team.

the Marikana massacre and the huge rape story that left the nation in shock was also something the government had control over and could have changed the outcome. the nation is still recovering from such horrible happenings.

we still live in a country where women are taken advantage of and not being noticed.
Needless to say its important to ask questions like:

*has the government done its fraction of what could have been done to improve the lives of all South Africans?

ANC does it AGAIN....

protestors: Same police-different faces

The number one leading party has done it yet again resolving problems the only way they know how, with VIOLENCE.

The Marikana Massacre has seen more than 40 people killed and 78 were injured due to the fact that mine workers had a strike, wanting an increase in their monthly salaries which makes sense. What man can live on a R4000 a month with a family of 6?

Marikana Massacre

It is stated that the ANC issued a statement commending the SAPS for deploying 3000 ''heavily armed police'' in Marikana. What government in its right mind would send more than 100 policemen to stop a stike that consists of less then 300 men? There must be something seriously wrong with the mental status of this government that we consistently praise.

In a recent article in the City Press, it is said that Julius Malema had stated infront of Lonmin miners that President of the ANC, Jacob Zuma, presided over the killing of our people and therefore he must step down. I guess we all have to wonder what hand our president had in all this insanity?

SAPS in Marikana

Women and children, fathers and mothers are all crying over their loved ones but what is our ruling party doing?? Congratulating SAPS for a job well-done.?? Is that what our government has turned into? What happened to ANC for the People?

Madonsela Fires Back....

Last weeks blog was about how Thuli Madonsela was put on the spot by the ruling party the ANC. We recieved comments stating that Madonsela did absolutely nothing wrong and that the ANC was being unreasonable.

public protector: Thulisile Madonsela
speaks out

After the criticism made by the ANC Madonsela fired back. She attended an audit conference in Johannesburg and told them that her presene at the Womens Day organised by the DA was "part of her mandate and was aimed at gaining and maintaining confidence from concerned parties http://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/madonsela-unfazed-by-criticism. She also stated that one should not adapt to one operation because a stakeholder or a group of people want things done their way.

President Jacob Zuma,
 DA leader Hellen Zille and
ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe
Is this the case though, that ANC would rather see things their way rather than looking at the need of the country. What does this say about the way in which the ANC runs the country, how is unity up held in this way? Will these powerful parties (the DA and the ANC) ever work or agree on anything?

Instead of parties working together to uplift and uphold the dignity and respect that we already have as a country they always try by all means to destroy one another. Hows that for a country instead of developing South Africa we are politically diminishing it.

ANC slams Madonsela-''Whats new"

Thulisile Madonsela,South Africas Public Protector
Thulisile Madonsela, our very own Public Protector who is also a Human Rights lawyer and equality expert. Thulisile Madonsela has clearly made her mark in South Africa and is not known as being biased, doesnt take sides whether the outcome is good or bad.

This prestigeous woman is now being accused by the ANC saying that:''for her not to attend an ANC rally in Pretoria and attend the DA Womens Network in Port Elizabeth was ill-considerate as it opens up her office to perception of political bias,BUT what i understand about Madonsela is that she is obliged to fulfil her constitutional obligation of being accessible to all persons and communities including the DA.

The ANC can complain all they want as it is said by the DA Women Alliance,Celeste Barker that Madonselas' speech was not politically related at all but instead her topic was about "how one can redress the feminisation of poverty, unemployment and gender violence using constitutional mechanisms.

Yes, Thulisile Madonsela has a responsibility towards the ANC but as a Publi Protector she has the right to empower and educate those aound her. It is also part of the Public Protectors responsibilities to be independent, impartial and exercise her right without fear, favour or even prejudice.

Is this a political vendetta
The real question here is:Was Madonsela really in the wrong by not attending the ANC rally but instead to attend a DA Womens Network to uplift woman. Is the REAL issue here that she attended a DA event instead of ANC??hmmm makes one think.

I Am Woman

This is the perfect introduction to a perfect month for women all over the continent. Woman who are proud to say I AM WOMAN..

Womans Month is happening throughout the month of August and here in South Africa we are celebrating it with no limits. South Africa celebrates this years Womans month which calls upon african leaders to advance womens participation in politics and empowering them economically. womens news

www.phuthu.co.za
International Womans Day/Month recognisers and applauds womens achievement and also observing and highlighting gender inequalities, which ofcourse that is one of the major problmes women are dealing with especially in the work place. But....

What good is International Womens Day?
A hundred years of celebration, and as far as i can see women still get pathetic deals, eventhough they are admirable, articulate and keep the world together.Yes we all know, August is womens month and womens day would obciously take place in the month of march but honestly i wouldnt have noticed if someone  hadnt told me. A hundred and one years of celebration and women still get the broken end of the stick..

www.fogelsonblog.blogspot.com

We love and respect International Womens day and yes its great that we commemorate womans day and month but does this mean for the rest of the 364 days or 11 months that we do not celebrate them we should turn them into victims; victims of abuse, rape, murder....What freedom is there if women are not free. What is the significance of it all if women are still going to be suppressed, given raw and unimaginable deals. If we cannot deal with such issues that concern women throughout the year how will we achieve these issues in a month?

The Reality Of It All

Last week I blogged about the story that brought the Nation to shame, where seven men raped a 17 year old girl. We saw the way in which the media and its readers reacted. You aired your views and gave suggestions on how these seven men should be prosecuted, now for the follow up.

Yesterday, 03 May 2012 at 16h18, The City PressThe City Press published online that four minors who were accused of raping the 17 year old girl were granted bail of R500 and house arrest by the Roodeport Magistrate Court, reminding us the public that children between the ages seven and  fourteen are assumed to be criminally incapable.

What confuses me is that this 13 year old boy went through raping this girl and committing more criminal offences(sexually), how can the law still stand by him saying that he is "criminally uncapable"? How is this boy supposed to learn that what he has done was and still is a very serious offence?

suspected rapists arrive for hearing
daily news

What does this say about us as a country, that we agree and support rape even done by minors. When is this barbaric act going to end if no unfair punishment is given to rapists.
What a system we have in this country.....

Rape: a Lifestyle!?

destroyed by selfish acts

As if it is not disturbing enough to read about a girl who was raped at the age of 12, we know have to read about a 17-year old girl who was gang raped by seven men between the ages of 14 and 20. is it not distgusting to discover that this is the third time it has happened to the very same girl? The worst part of this matter is how the media is reacting towards such an act. Is there no lwas to regulate how the rights and dignity of rape victims can be protected on news channels and newspapers.

Is it right for a woman to be sexually exploited in such a manner, to be a rape victim at the age of 12? This is not the time to start blaming others but ourselves. How does one wake up in the early hours of the morning, walk the streets of his community and rape an innocent girl just because its fun and that he can.

7 men who raped a 17 year old girl
bet

Our country has changed drastically. Instead of reading about the success of a man or how students from South Africa are being send out to overseas to further their education we now read headlines such as "Son Rapes Mother", "Girl Raped By Minor" even "Nations Shame". The nation should feel ashamed that rape has allowed itself to become a lifestyle in peoples minds; a trend of some sort.

People are busy preaching "Stop Rape", has that concept really worked, take a look at where we are when coming to this act of selfishness. What happens to a rapist; they are slapped with a law suit, a few years sentence or even a lousy bail and thats the end of that.

MEC for community safety Faith Mazibuko
speaks out
the post
One should question the justice system of South Africa when coming to rape and does "guilty" really make someone rethink their actions. Why are people allowing rape to control a womans movement and tearing down their dignity?

Women In Media

While going  through news stories, twiddling my thumbs, seeking inspiration for my blog I came across a very disturbing matter. I have come to the realisation that women in media whether it be professional or even an athlete, they continue to be under-represented in news coverages and are often stereotypically portrayed when they are included.

logo of the Woman awards
Media Online
Women could easily function within politics, sports and fashion of course and it is proven that in the past 20 years there has been a steady growth in the number of women who are likely to take a "mans profession". Eventhough with this said mainstream press coverages continue to talk about men as the "know it all" in the field of politics, business, economic or even sports. Making it seem like you have to be some kind of expert in the businesss world. But it is very unlikely that a man who is in fashion and is a well known designer be discriminated or looked down because of his knowledge or "sense" in fashion. Media online
Michelle Meyjes
www.fm.co.za
Women in the Media Awards 2011 highlighted a few women who have showen and proven that a woman is able to change the country whether it be economically or even politically. Taking a look at Michelle Meyjes, the CEO of MEC Group of South Africa, she has consistently raised the industrys challenges to political and economic bodies. Her leadership in her company during the world economic crisis was amazing and commendable. When other businesses were hiring and firing, she managed to retain all her staff and mananged to draw up 30 clients to MEC. The issues they faced were about pricing strategies but Meyjes faced that with confidence and and delivered to what was expected of her
Even with her involvement in securing MEC she was never highlighted in the media as "That Woman". So is it right, is it right that we as women are still seen as the developing market of South Africa, a product of household goods, when we can obviously see what impact women have made in South Africa?
eniquality will it end

In Sickness and in Health

We all know about the very talented and gifted Dineo Ranaka, a radio DJ and television presenter for the ever famous radio station Yfm and the popular show Club 808. She is well- known for her rawness on radio and her much recognised fashion sense, but theres a horrible secret that recently came out, that Dineo Ranaka is suffering from a brain related chronic illness caused by stress and hypertension.

Dineo Ranaka lookin into her future
http://www.press.integrat.co.za/

We all go through a breakdown once in a while but when your in the radio industry it is usually not expected to have such a breakdown on live radio, well unfortunately Ms Ranaka had a huge breakdown on her show, it even got people thinking that she was on drugs. Which we all know now that that was not the case at all.

Unfortunatly Dineo will not be heard on Yfm any longer since her contract with the radio station was not renewed. One would think that this would be the end for her, with such bad publicity around her name and the fact that Yfm has dismissed her, but the truth is far from that.

http://www.rvedlife.co.za/
Woman like Dineo Ranaka have alot of ambition and dreams that are intended to come true. Dine did not let her dismissal get the better side of her. She has decided to take this opportunity to build her name up and make something of her already successful self by opening up her own companies which focus on fashion and production.

Last week she was on the show Motswako(ww.sabc2.co.za/show/motswako)inspiring young gifted ladies that its not th end of the world when things dont always go your way, these kind of mishaps happen even to the best of us. She even said that her illness did not stop her from reaching for those goals that she had intended to achieve. With tears in her eyes she did admit that it was her hard to see how the public reacted when finding out about her illness but that made her prove not only to them but to herself that she can pull through this.

Ladies lets take a closer look at this woman and what she has suffered and went through. This should prove to you that it is not about what you may or may not have but how far would you go to make sure that you achieve that dream career. There is no need to look at yourself and think that something is impossible. Dineo Ranakas brain might be shrinking but she took a step from not feeling sorry for herself to making a better Dineo.

This proves that through sickness and even in health not all has failed one can still go further with their careers and ambitions....

Inner Beauty Shows Outter Strength

Inner beauty has become the most important feature in our human body.whether you see it or not. Plenty would think that out outter boday is the most important aspect of a human but that is not 100% true. What can physical things in life do for the soul? Well th eanswer is simple....nothing. Your soul needs to find a fulfilling need or achievement in order to take full advantage of the next step in life.

Alicia keys speaking  out
http://www.alicia.com/
The things you see as essential in your day-to-day life like make-up, jewellery or clothing are simply tools that can better a ladys God-Given beauty, not her inner soul. When you finally realise your inner beauty you will eventually see the good you can do for people.

Taking a closer look at celebrities, people automatically picture a perfect, beautiful and flawless figure who lives the good life with simply no worries, well that is not the case.Lets take a closer look at Alicia Keys. When one mentions Ms Keys they would describe her as the pianoist, the lady who loves live bands and award winner. Well that is not all that potrays Ms Keys but also her love for children. Her campaign Keep A Child Alive has shown her compassion, her love and spiritful nature for children with HIV, which characterisers her inner beauty.

Keep A Child Alive is a campaign dedicated to providing AIDS nutrition, treatement, care and support to the children or families that are affected by HIV or AIDS by getting the global world invloved in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

She has worked hard to persuade people to care as well for those living with HIV and AIDS, so why not get invloved, reveal what is within you by helping others living with the disease. Not only is she helping children but children in SouthAfrica, what does this say about those living in this country but do not have the time of day just to give the infected a few minutes of their time. Maybe by doing this you will find the inner beauty that has been hidden by your outter thoughts.

Dont Block Your Life...Colour Block It

Ladies it is definately time to take another "serious" look at your wardrobe and incorporate the newest trend which would be colour blocking. You must be asking yourself, what is colour blocking?

www.glamour.com

Well colour blocking is a new trend that allows you to incorporate two or more colours in an outfit. The purpose of incorporating these colours is that it firstly the colours need to complimenteach other and secondly they need to compliment you.Vouge Magazines defines colour blocking as a "Loud and proud colour combinations make for a dynamic, confident look"www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/trends

This new trend that has hit South African fashion with a bang began two years ago and already it has so many people following it, so why not be the trend setter as well. The best part of colour blocking is that you can also incorporate your own style.

South african
Celebrity icon Bonang Matheba
Yes, you might be asking yourself how does one wear lime green and purple at the same time well its simple, not only do these colours do wonder for your body but brings you at a standard of having fashion sense. Remember no one is asking you to wear outrageous colours but that should not dtop you from exaggerating, just a little bit.

full figured can
realitytvfashion.com

Most African woman are really afraid of wearing bright colours for simple reasons like; it will not be as figure fitting, it will; not go with their complexion or simply it will not be age appropriate....but there is no need to feel this way because colour blocking is not only a trend but a trend that hides your flaws depending on what colour you wear and how you wear it, for example a darker combination of colour will give you a slimmer figure but one needs to STICK TO THE RULES OF YOUR BODY SHAPE and to not getcarried away that you soon look like the rainbow itself, that is not the point of colour blocking.

One important factor needs to be highlighted that YOUR GOING TO STAND OUT. Colour blocking shows your confidence and boldness so if you really want to follow this trend you have to be able to let go and let loose,
allow bright colours to linger in your wardrobe.

Lets Colour Block It....*xoxo*SL

so what if you have flaws??

Are you that woman who keeps looking at other woman with only one question coming to mind..."why cant i look like that?". The question you should be asking yourself is why would you want that tall, skinny, dark, light, petit or muscular body when you have all that and more. That woman you keep on looking at has just as much flaws as you have.
Instead of worrying about how you look, do something about it;either sit on ypur comfortable couch and read an article on How to be your biggest fan by Christina Caldwell, informing people on how to maintain a healthy level of understanding about themselves or you could do what Jennifer Hudson decided too do, lose her flaws.

We all know that Ms Hudson had her own weight issues. Well this Grammy and Oscar winner did not only go from a 16 to a petite size 6 but she had her first baby, planned a wedding and imediately took out her first album. Hudson is also a proud spokeswoman for "With Weight Watchers".28 Year  old Hud-son did not see this as a typical diet of some sort but a lifestyle change that needed to happen, no wonder InStyle Makeover Magazine awarded her InStyle's Makeover of the year award.

Christina Caldwell has introduced something we call the Defy Beauty Stereotypes, where she says that not being perfect is actually beautiful and also talking about the 5 body flaws that you see as a total fault or a target factor on your body can actually be the best thing about your body. So there is no reason to look down at yourself your true beauty will shine immediately after you love the way you look. Visit her website on http://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness/articles/842543/5-body-flaws-that-are-beautiful to know what its all about
