Rape: a Lifestyle!?

destroyed by selfish acts

As if it is not disturbing enough to read about a girl who was raped at the age of 12, we know have to read about a 17-year old girl who was gang raped by seven men between the ages of 14 and 20. is it not distgusting to discover that this is the third time it has happened to the very same girl? The worst part of this matter is how the media is reacting towards such an act. Is there no lwas to regulate how the rights and dignity of rape victims can be protected on news channels and newspapers.

Is it right for a woman to be sexually exploited in such a manner, to be a rape victim at the age of 12? This is not the time to start blaming others but ourselves. How does one wake up in the early hours of the morning, walk the streets of his community and rape an innocent girl just because its fun and that he can.

Our country has changed drastically. Instead of reading about the success of a man or how students from South Africa are being send out to overseas to further their education we now read headlines such as "Son Rapes Mother", "Girl Raped By Minor" even "Nations Shame". The nation should feel ashamed that rape has allowed itself to become a lifestyle in peoples minds; a trend of some sort.

People are busy preaching "Stop Rape", has that concept really worked, take a look at where we are when coming to this act of selfishness. What happens to a rapist; they are slapped with a law suit, a few years sentence or even a lousy bail and thats the end of that.

One should question the justice system of South Africa when coming to rape and does "guilty" really make someone rethink their actions. Why are people allowing rape to control a womans movement and tearing down their dignity?

Women In Media

While going  through news stories, twiddling my thumbs, seeking inspiration for my blog I came across a very disturbing matter. I have come to the realisation that women in media whether it be professional or even an athlete, they continue to be under-represented in news coverages and are often stereotypically portrayed when they are included.

Media Online
Women could easily function within politics, sports and fashion of course and it is proven that in the past 20 years there has been a steady growth in the number of women who are likely to take a "mans profession". Eventhough with this said mainstream press coverages continue to talk about men as the "know it all" in the field of politics, business, economic or even sports. Making it seem like you have to be some kind of expert in the businesss world. But it is very unlikely that a man who is in fashion and is a well known designer be discriminated or looked down because of his knowledge or "sense" in fashion. Media online

Women in the Media Awards 2011 highlighted a few women who have showen and proven that a woman is able to change the country whether it be economically or even politically. Taking a look at Michelle Meyjes, the CEO of MEC Group of South Africa, she has consistently raised the industrys challenges to political and economic bodies. Her leadership in her company during the world economic crisis was amazing and commendable. When other businesses were hiring and firing, she managed to retain all her staff and mananged to draw up 30 clients to MEC. The issues they faced were about pricing strategies but Meyjes faced that with confidence and and delivered to what was expected of her
Even with her involvement in securing MEC she was never highlighted in the media as "That Woman". So is it right, is it right that we as women are still seen as the developing market of South Africa, a product of household goods, when we can obviously see what impact women have made in South Africa?

In Sickness and in Health

We all know about the very talented and gifted Dineo Ranaka, a radio DJ and television presenter for the ever famous radio station Yfm and the popular show Club 808. She is well- known for her rawness on radio and her much recognised fashion sense, but theres a horrible secret that recently came out, that Dineo Ranaka is suffering from a brain related chronic illness caused by stress and hypertension.

We all go through a breakdown once in a while but when your in the radio industry it is usually not expected to have such a breakdown on live radio, well unfortunately Ms Ranaka had a huge breakdown on her show, it even got people thinking that she was on drugs. Which we all know now that that was not the case at all.

Unfortunatly Dineo will not be heard on Yfm any longer since her contract with the radio station was not renewed. One would think that this would be the end for her, with such bad publicity around her name and the fact that Yfm has dismissed her, but the truth is far from that.

http://www.rvedlife.co.za/
Woman like Dineo Ranaka have alot of ambition and dreams that are intended to come true. Dine did not let her dismissal get the better side of her. She has decided to take this opportunity to build her name up and make something of her already successful self by opening up her own companies which focus on fashion and production.

Last week she was on the show Motswako(ww.sabc2.co.za/show/motswako)inspiring young gifted ladies that its not th end of the world when things dont always go your way, these kind of mishaps happen even to the best of us. She even said that her illness did not stop her from reaching for those goals that she had intended to achieve. With tears in her eyes she did admit that it was her hard to see how the public reacted when finding out about her illness but that made her prove not only to them but to herself that she can pull through this.

Ladies lets take a closer look at this woman and what she has suffered and went through. This should prove to you that it is not about what you may or may not have but how far would you go to make sure that you achieve that dream career. There is no need to look at yourself and think that something is impossible. Dineo Ranakas brain might be shrinking but she took a step from not feeling sorry for herself to making a better Dineo.

This proves that through sickness and even in health not all has failed one can still go further with their careers and ambitions....
